Gospel Cafe

Lord, thank You for letting Hannah invite me to Harris Cafe (5 to 7 pm, every Friday evening, started by Christian students in Cambridge, to serve international language students). Wherever I go, it is always good to know that there are people talking about You.

In fact, at the beginning, I was not totally satisfied whilst I did enjoy. You know the way I am used to making new friends – I would prefer chatting one-on-one, face to face, going deeply into the inmost of our hearts, and being refreshed as we come back – But it was apparently not the way You wanted me to do this time. Rather, You have exposed me to a bunch of people who came from diverse parts of the world, with so different cultural backgrounds and experiences. Hence almost anything could be an interesting topic to talk about, and frequent switching between topics became no surprise. I love this, though I just felt unsatisfied -“The time is just too short to make good friends!” to You I protested.

“Relax, my child,” You replyed. “Make yourself and your friends a cup of tea.”

So I get up from my seat and did as You wished – Make teas and coffees for my new friends. As I handed the Korean lady her coffee, I even came to share an embarrassing experience.

“You know, once in Taiwan when I was trying to tell my Korean friends that I wanted a cup of coffee, I said, ‘I’d like to have CO-PEE (코피)!’”

She laughed. For in Korean, coffee is pronounced COE-PEE (커피, OE similar to the a in father) whilst CO-PEE (코피, O similar to the o in north, with a northern British accent) means nose bleed. (It seems to be a common joke that foreigners would make.)

“See,” said You, Lord, “There is always more you can do for your friends rather than just chatting with them – the only way you were used to.”

Well, thanks anyway, Lord. At last I have done it in both ways – I talked with Dave face to face during the brief Bible studing after cafe. Apart from discussing the assigned questions, we shared our experiences about how we became Christian. After all I have to say: It is always good to talk about You – no matter by words or by action.

Besides, thanks for the bonus that I have never imagined - being able to join their day trip to British Museum (with a guide explaining links between the ancient heritages and the Bible!) and to a punting, as well as gaining a pal (Ross) who is accompanying me to the Seven Sisters National Park and Brighton tomorrow! Thus, I am going to bed. Good night!
